Winter Fire:

With eyes like sapphire
and a heart wrapped tight in barbwire,
she fled in the night
lips pressed tight into thin lines
and a stride full of desire.

She wraps herself in her social stature
wears the woven lace like armor
as if it is her personal disgrace
brittle smiles and unshed tears for a lost shire
brambles cling to her ankles like a cancer
the only reminder of her homeland acres.

Try as she might to forget
ash and blisters remain unscathed
knotted hair in blood and fate
scars will lie forever upon ire flesh
for she could never truly outrun the flame.
